Yes Gibby's are getting Broadband in so we can join the growing number of Internet Broadcasters giving anyone on the Net a chance to join in the fun and request songs. Esther gets a mention about 3 min in to the section and as you will very shortly hear, the collection is very diverse and suitable for all ages.

I was full of the flu - but the show went on, and as you will hear Donkey and I do a layed back sort of radio style show and have a load of fun entertaining the live audience at Gibby's Tavern.

We will post details of how to tune in for the live shows and also how to contact the DJ to interact with us via Shoutcast shortly. The Audio stream will be 128 Kb per second Stereo and I will have a dedicated email address for the station soon... Watch this thread.

Listening to our first PodCast now Chris... I forgot to switch on the Audio Processor for Radio, so next week will be much better fidelity I suspect and off course my voice should be back to normal, but heck still sounds good to me... Great Job Chris getting 'Gibby's Radio' Online so fast.

Bit confusing though how to stream the audio Chris, can you make that a little more clear on the page as the big PLAY Icon seems to have 'shrunk' on my machine at anyrate.

For the Technical... OtsDJ software, Acer Aspire 5670 laptop, Citronic 12 channel Studio mixer, Radio Audio processing in software mixer output converted back to digital signal on a portable Mini Disc recorder.

Mini disc output converted to Podcast format via Chris and his home computer. Running time 70 min, recorded live mistakes, goofs, warts and all in Gibby's Tavern Sunday September 17th 2006 in front of members of the Timmins community.

File size is 70Mb and you can download it for home use if you wish.

Like most interested in the Net I have been keeping a close watch on the explosive growth of "Pod casting", like "Blogs" they free you of all the normal red tape that used to surround Publishing and Broadcasting.

For the first time, broadcasters can communicate directly with there target listener FREE of tiresome expensive performing rights payments and logs, national content rules and other legal stuff which has burdened even the smallest community radio station from the dawn of the Radio age.

Though performing rights and copyright rules still stand, Podcasting and the Podcasters, in there millions are simply ignoring them and just like music downloading, there is not a heck of a lot anyone can do about it.

So once Gibby's Tavern goes Broadband, Via the net and a local wireless network, Gibby's Radio will be promoting the City of Timmins, the Shania Twain Centre and OF COURSE the annual Fan Convention to the World.

The initial test broadcast - pre recorded and on line now has already been downloaded 75 times, has 42 listeners subscribed in 11 countries...

Thanks to Ren for his kind comments on the Blog page, you want to hear your name in next weekends shows, then get with the new Radio Age and leave Rogers, Clear Channel and others who will tell you what you can listen to or NOT behind in the dust.

Not bad for Shrek and Donkey-vision Wink Thanks to Ken and Linda for there total and wholehearted support of this venture.

You were our very first Listener, Steve - way cool you logged on like about 3 min after Chris had uploaded the 70Mb MP3 file. We now have over 100 listeners, 78 of whom have downloaded the 70 min audio excerpt. It is just a pity this was the 1st hour of the show and not the full thing as it got busy later on and the mystery year was a laugh too with not one but two winners calling in at the same time...

The year was.... Any guesses Steve?

Podcast is the name given for those who upload a recording of a music or talk radio show. It is held on a special server where you can link to it and listen to steaming audio, or if you wish download the whole file to your PC.

It works best on Windows Media, Firefox does not work with me. Click on the link below my post here, make sure nothing else is running on the internet as this WILL use all your bandwidth, sit back Alex and Enjoy the Shrek and Donkey show...

OK gang latest update is both Chris and I have managed to use our home PC's as a server and stream live radio on the internet. However there is a problem in so far as our bandwidth will only allow two listeners at a time streaming at 128Kb per second 44.1Khz sample rate in Stereo, so looks like we are going to have to purchase commercial server space somewhere to do this properly.

We also have a technical challenge in getting live via my laptop the same sound on the Net as the public hear in Gibby's. We are working on it!

OK further update.... This post will be edited to remove this link for this is a test Transmission ONLY.... Go HERE:

http://209.105.221.44:8001

Cut and paste the above into Windows Media Player by clicking on File/Open URL and allow about 30 seconds for connection. This is a high quality 44.1Khz Stereo feed so make sure your internet connection is NOT doing anything else, for Shoutcast will EAT up your bandwidth Wink in a most enjoyable way...

These are test transmissions so be aware they are subject to sudden loss. While every effort will be made to broadcast for the next 24 hours be aware of the experimental nature of this complex live feed.
