The best time to call the centre will be thursday night between 8pm and 9pm or Saturday night between 8pm and 10pm.
1-800-387-8466
If you can't call during those times, you can call when it is convenient for you and ask the ladies at the front desk to transfer you to my cell phone as I will likely be with the group..........unless they dump me on the side of the road somewhere!!??
We look forward to hearing from all of you, and wish you were here!! _________________

Matty, Dot, Debbie, Betsy and Chris showed up at the Centre this morning to check out the gift shop as the exhibit hall is off limits until the convention starts.............right Bonnie
Andrea and I decided to pick Dot and Matty up at the airport last night so we got to see them stagger off the plane exhausted but yet thankful to be in Timmins!! _________________

I can't wait to see the pictures when you start posting. I was all set to attend, but for the past couple of months I've been in court fighting for my 91 year old mom's freedom!!
I have a BAD sister! Pray for a quick resolution, please!
I will miss all of you this year and can't wait til next year--at which time I'd like to bring my mom, daughter and granddaughters--all Shania fans!!
Have a wonderful time!!

I had to check out the gift shop, since all my Shania shirts are now too big on me.
Of course Tracy sent a reporter in our direction so I am sure one of us is going to wind up in the Daily Press tomorrow..lol
The day included a walk around Gillies Lake, a stop at Tim Horton's and while everyone was hanging out in the STC, I chilled out on the gold mine tour.
So far the weather is holding out.

"About 30 Twainiacs will converge on the City with the Heart of Gold Thursday for the seventh-annual Shania Twain Fan Convention."
That number sounds better than I guessed.
"Some arrived early on Tuesday, while the remainder are expected to roll in sometime today...,"
Tuesday thru Sunday is 6 days, or twice the length of the official convention in normal years. I've seen you fans post in recent years, that you like being there so much, you wanted it to last longer. So even though it's still officially just Thurs evening thru Sun morning, the pre and post convention informal activities, organized by the fans on their own, seem to be a big hit.
"We’re taking them to city hall to meet the mayor and then to CTV so see where Shania used to do interviews,”
I've seen and enjoyed CTV studios. But I'm scratching my head to remember if I ever met the mayor. I've seen 3 or 4 of them since I started going to Timmins in 1979. I don't remember who was mayor then.
Oh, they say it was Michael Doody. I believe I HAVE seen him. I think he's sometimes accepted the fans donation at conventions, to the Timmins area food bank.
In 2001, at the Centre Opening, which was the first time the online fan group was there, I think Jamie Lim was mayor. I remember she gave a speech on the outdoor stage that year. Then in 2003, she attended the first convention and banquet. By garsh, I guess I do remember talking with her. First time was up at the CTV studios with Corinna Vrona, while we were waiting for the main gang of fans to return from a photo shoot, out by the big Shania sign, way east of Timmins on Hwy 101. 2nd time was in 2003, at the convention banquet.
I was invited to go see Mayor Vic Power in about 2004 or 2005, but I was already on my way out of town. Don't remember meeting current mayor Tom Laughren.
"On Saturday, Hautanen said, a few special guests will be attending the event, people from Shania’s past who are going to chat with the fans."
That's intriguing. Most of the special guests in the past, have been very interesting. Let's see, it's included Shania band members J D Blair, Cory Churko, Randall Waller, and Allison Cornell. Shania's friend Helen Bolduc and her husband have attended. Shania's first agent/manager Mary Bailey was there one year. A number of others have also participated.
"Betsy Perry of North Carolina has been participating in the convention since the first year."
I just realized there are two Perry's attending this year. One has that as first name, the other as last. |

The Fancon has become more about catching up with friends, new an old than it is about Shania herself.

Yep, I noticed that too, but forgot to say it. Some very good perspective and descriptions by the interviewees. I think the reporter did a pretty good job too. But they can't write a great story without great sources!
So your on your way, Richard. But what I wanna know is...,
are you gonna be singing "Crimson and Clover" at the karioke?
Trying to remember where Barrie is, between Toronto and Timmins. Oh! You're coming thru from Port Huron. Yep, that fits then. I came that way one year. It reminded me of Tracy and her favorite pastime. I remember approaching, with some trepidation, the International boundary between the US and Canada. It's security has now become almost like the world's Iron Curtain, as a result of 9/11. Meanwhile, the Cold War ended, the Berlin Wall was taken down, and the residents of West Europe and East Europe, cross each other's boundaries, as easily as the cows came up the lane on my family's farm when I was a kid.
So at the far east edge of Port Huron, I drove up onto this high and scary amusement park ride, they sometimes call the Blue Water Bridge.
It was cloudy, and visibility reached almost down to the river, far, far below. Just before I got to the highest point on the bridge, there appeared, a hole in the clouds. And a view opened up to the north, showing the huge Lake Huron. But all I could see looking that way was the immense lake. My sense of proportion got disoriented for a moment. I couldn't tell where exactly I was. Almost felt as if I was driving off the planet, into another world, before I was ready to leave this world. Yikes! So I forced my eyes back straight ahead, onto the road, as the clouds closed back in on me. And I kept my concentration as best I could, on getting the rest of the way across, that ominous curtain of iron and fog. |
