Hi all, It has begun. Today Monday the 6th of August 5 members of this Years Fan Convention all met at the STC on that afternoon. The Centre WAS BUSY... Very busy and poor old Sue was on her own, so for a while we were all helping out as best we could.

Names and more details to follow, but IT HAS BEGUN, Timmins will never be the same for the next 8 days. Trees planted on Year one have shown a huge spurt in growth and some are now 2 feet tall! Even my little 'runt' tree, almost destroyed in the first summer by bugs has come on to the point where I think it will be a survivor.

After the Fan Convention Chris and I will re label all the surviving trees as the original name tags are starting to show the effects of 5 years of Timmins weather and becoming difficult to read.

Please fell free to all post pictures and update tails on this thread and try avoid starting a new thread for each Fan Con 5 update post

That makes the browsing experience a lot simpler for the people who could not attend this year.

Enjoy this thread, which I am sure will break all records for the number of reads over the next few months as the tales of Joy and photo's to prove them roll in.

The Fan Convention Fringe, kicks off Wednesday Night with a gathering at Nikki's Sports Gallery (Timmins most popular Tavern) after the train delegation have all checked in to there hotels and reported back to the Day's Inn.

Sue thinks she was busy???? We'll show her what busy is in just a couple days time as fans from all over the world show up at the STC. Stock them shelves with souveniers Sue. As fast as the store shelves are replenished during the Fan/Con, the 'ol plastic gets a workout at the cash register.

I'll be accepting wagers as to which fan will burn the most plastic at the gift shop this year....Odd's on favourites are probably a heated race between Sheri and Betsy......only time will tell.

I was greeted last night by the hospitality of the German family as I drove my car as far as the south east corner of Michigan last night. We had a late night pizza and charted our course on a map of Ontario. Woke to the clap of thunder and lighting bolts this morning, as the heavens are probably happy that Shania fans from far and near are headed toward Timmins.

Hold on a moment....... (Ouch !!!)...... We'll then, I just pinched myself...it's not a dream. It really is August 7th, 2007 and I'm headed toward Fan/Con5. Before the evening is done, I'll be sharing rounds of laughter, smiles and hugs with my dear friends at the downtown Toronto Spaghetti Factory.

I'm already starting to wonder........
in 2005 a clown showed up at the Meet-n-Greet.
in 2006 a pirate named Jack Sparrow showed up at the Meet-Greet.
in 2007....I wonder if another character is gonna crash the part???

Stay tuned.
Wink

Tracy and Andrea just left Timmins accompanied by Jack and Debbie and are on their way to Toronto.

They should be there in about 8 hours.

Let the Games Begin Very Happy Great to hear everything is falling into place for a FANtastic event. Sorry Gang I will not be there on the Twain Train Ride but too many things to worry about back home in Timmins as I am just newly back from my Work at Sea.

Ren part of that Work is to get a HUGE pot of Chili on the go for the hungry people at Gibby's. I want to make sure you all have enough food on the Sunday to last you the whole of Monday and save you loads of cash in the entertainment car on the Twain Train South.

Well there is always Popeye the Sailor Man, as long as you do not expect me to dress up as Olive, Richard. The beer belly is just a little too big for that Wink

You will NEED a Sailor suite anyway Richard, as I am sure you are going swimming on the Celeb Dunk Tank event ... tee heee

Ren, just get that Saturday 40% chance of rain gone, then we'll be okay!

That's a 60% chance of NO-rain.

Well I'm here in Timmins, as of about 4:30 pm Tues.

And it's already precipitated. Now if Tracy's earlier note is any indication, that could be a good sign.

Otherwise, I'm glad the clouds came up a little to cool it down. Too hot otherwise. I was sweating when the sun came out.

Also, the light sprinkles near west end of Timmins, helped keep the dust down, then wash it off, after my 80 Kilometers of dirt/gravel road from Sault Ste Marie, along Hwy 556 to Hwy 129.

Temperature here in Timmins is just about right. A very comfortable mid to upper 70's F.

Ran into Irene Cross while I was getting out of my car. She was parked right beside me. She's been hob nobbing with Bonnie Ferguson, who's been here for several days, I guess. And also with Earl who came in "earl"-y.

Great to meet old friends like Irene. She and I go back to 2001 for STC events here. But I go back to 78/79 for Timmins visits.

I have yet to come to Timmins, and not run into someone I know, almost right away. It's like an oasis, away from the hassle of life in the overpopulated zones. Here, if you get a mile outside of Timmins, they say there's more moose per square mile than people. After driving about 500 Kilometers thru almost nothing but trees, I think that's possibly still true.

About 18 of us gathered last night in downtown Toronto at the Spaghetti Factory, not far from Toronto Union Station. It was good to see many friends that I missed seeing last year, as well as making some new friends. A good meal was had by all, although the resturant could have done with some more airconditioning, as it was a bit warm in there.

I only took one picture which follows, but expect to take more today on the train, which I'll try to post tonight from Timmins.

Ahah! The pictures, stories and fun have begun Smile

Let's see, from left I see Sheri, Cody, & Sam from Hawaii. Hope Sam is feeling well after his tumble some months ago. Magnus from Sweden. It's been a long time since I was in Gotten/burg(?sp). And my sometimes fellow travelor/former farmer association Eric German from SE Michigan. Hey, somebody needs to lighten up this pic for me. On the rooad I don't have Adobe Photoshop. Is that Betsy at the far end on left?

And at far end on right is a fellow I know. Alas he has 3 names in my head and I don't remember which one is right. Wow, is that Debbie S, or Linda B with the hair line only, above Richard's enthusastic face. Either way, they're from California. You don't have enough lanyards and buttons, Richard. No one could ever know you were a Shania fan. Good PR. But don't let Tracy pay you for that. The border patrol is hypervigilant about "work" in Timmins by non-citizen guests. Even those from Indiana. That looks like Rob's parents in the foreground. Didn't know they were coming again all the way from England. Teresa and hmn, is it Phil?

Where's Matty and Dot? Where's cbspock? I guess some planes are arriving later, or maybe there was another table.

Hey Alan, thanks for the pic. A picture of good friends, soon to be met again, is worth more than a thousand words.
