Well, Shania is in town and we all know what that can do to Timmins weather. It`s the coldest day of the year!! - 36 with the windchill factor. Hopefully it will warm up this afternoon.
I`ll be at the park during celebrations and hopefully I`ll be able to update the proceedings, but won`t be able to update this site through my phone.
If it warms up..... and if you want to follow it live, you can check out my twitter page at www.twitter.com/rgaudreau or you can follow @rgaudreau on twitter and if I can keep my fingers out of my mitts long enough, I`ll try to post updates on a regular basis.
hope you all have a great day... it looks like it`s going to be a really cold one here!!! _________________

Also, they have a feed of the torch run at http://www.ctvolympics.ca/torch/follow-torch/index.html
Depending on the satellite signal, it can be a great feed or horrible. I`m assuming they will have the feed on Shania when she runs. However, in other communities, they did not show live footage of the ceremonies.

Oh my god, that's so COLD! Respect to all of you guys.. We had -15 a few weeks ago and I didn't know how to keep myself warm.. that was really extreme for us over here in the Netherlands... but compared to the temperature over there right now is what we had only peanuts, lol!
Well thanks Ren that you're gonna post updates. It will be around 1AM (2nd of January) in our time zone but I'm sure gonna stay awake to follow it live, or at least; to read your updates live on the Internet. I'm really excited and can't wait!
I'll follow you on Twitter and elsewhere. Now all that is left for me to do is to wish you and all the other people in Timmins a wonderful time. And Shania: GOOD luck! You ROCK! (H) _________________

Hopefully I`ll be able to update via my phone... still really cold here... Don`t know if my fingers will be able to handle it.
If not, I`ll hopefully have a picture or two to post later on.

Thanks for keeping us updated despite the cold. Looking forward to following the event as it unfolds. We have late effect snow falling in northern Indiana today but our temp of 19F would make those of Timmins jealous today but 19F is still very Brrrrrrr.
Have fun folks. I wish I could have been there with ya'll. _________________

Thanks Ren
TIMMINS, Ont. - Olympic officials say they won't be boosting security when Canadian country music superstar Shania Twain carries the torch Friday in her hometown of Timmins, Ont.
Twain's run with the flame will come four days after a torchbearer in Guelph, Ont., fell to the ground in a confrontation between protesters and security personnel.
"The security levels we have now are appropriate. There's no pre-plans to beef up security, but that might change on a moment's notice, based on crowd size or crowd behaviour,'' said Bert Paquet, spokesman for the Vancouver 2010 Integrated Security Unit.
"We have that ability to increase that level pretty much instantly.''
Torchbearer Courtney Hansen had just turned a corner with the torch in Guelph on Monday morning when she became entangled in the protest and fell.
The flame skidded against the ground but stayed lit. Guelph police have charged a 19-year-old woman with assault.
It's expected that Twain, a multiple Grammy-winner whose 1997 release "Come on Over'' remains the best-selling country music album of all time, will carry the torch during a two-hour celebration in Timmins on New Year's Day.
There have been no reports in Timmins media of any expected protests.
Paquet said security officials "don't want to take away'' the uniqueness of the torch run - both for Twain's fans and the singer herself - by having undue levels of security.
The security unit is working closely with local police, Paquet said, and if any "intelligence'' shows there could be a problem then they'll act quickly.
"Our job is to protect the torchbearer and the flame. And we will do that.'' |

| Quote: | | When the tiny, pretty brunette known by just one name in these parts came jogging toward the Olympic cauldron Friday night, of course the crowd in Timmins cheered. "Welcome home, Shania," one man called. |
One story with a picture of ST by CTVOlymipics can be found here.
Of equal note in the article is the new stars of Timmins.
| Quote: | But among the throngs who gathered to see the flame go by and celebrate a hometown superstar, there was one young woman who was especially excited.
After all, if it weren't for Shania Twain, 27-year-old Andrea O'Callaghan wouldn't live in Timmins. And she would never have met the man she's about to marry. |
| Quote: | | For Ms. O'Callaghan and her fiancé, Rene Gaudreau, it was a simple story. |
